Energize Our Future College Scholarships

Contest/Scholarship Guidelines

The Foundation for Water and Energy Education (FWEE) is awarding five, $1000 college scholarships to students who write the best essays about the Northwest's energy future.

Scholarships will be awarded to students writing the most articulate and well thought-out essay. The essays need to be 2000 to 2500 words in length, reflect the research and creativity of the student, and involve an adult collaborator.

The following Contest/Scholarship Guidelines provide an overview of how this program is administered. These guidelines, along with other materials found on the "Energize Our Future" web page, provide all the information necessary to apply.

Guidelines

  1. The scholarships are for high school juniors or seniors who plan to enroll full-time in a four-year degree granting institution. The institution can be public or private, and located anywhere within the United States.

  2. Scholarship awards will be for $1000 and will be deposited with the selected recipients' college or university of choice. That institution will apply the funds to the recipients' college expenses for the academic year. For seniors, awards will be for the academic year 2003 - 2004. For juniors, the awards will be for the academic year 2004 - 2005.

  3. Go on-line to www.fwee.org/scholars.html to download and complete the application materials. Important resources, entry guidelines, and criteria for selection will be posted on this site. You can also ask questions and receive responses online.

  4. Return your completed application to the Foundation for Water and Energy Education at the address provided on the FWEE web site.

  5. Application materials and essays must be post marked no later than March 10th, 2003. Awards will be announced no later than May 12th, 2003.

  6. The applicants’ home or school must receive energy from a utility that is either a FWEE sponsor, or purchases power from the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA). See the FWEE web site for a list of eligible utilities that purchase power from BPA.

  7. Demonstration of financial need is not a factor in selecting awards.

  8. Applicants are free to apply for other financial aid. Receiving aid from other sources does not influence the award process.

  9. Awards will be made without regard to the applicant's race, color, sexual orientation, ethnic origin, religious belief, gender, marital status or physical disability.

  10. On-line entry instructions include a teacher's name that may be contacted as a reference for finalists.

  11. This is a one time scholarship, and is non-renewable.

  12. Winning essays will be posted on the FWEE web site at www.fwee.org, and will become the property of FWEE.

  13. No entrant can be a relative of a FWEE board or steering committee member.

  14. FWEE will not be able to return any application materials or essays to senders.
