Explore a world where rivers, tides, and waves help power our communities, monitor our environment, and provide clean drinking water.

REDi Island

An app full of water power waystations will quench your curiosity about climate change, clean energy, the water cycle, and ways to tap the power of rivers and oceans.

Hydro hollow

Conventional hydropower can store water behind a dam, then release it to generate electricity when it’s most needed.

River ramble

Run-off river hydropower generates electricity by using only a river’s natural water flow.

hydro heights

Pumped storage hydropower generates electricity by storing and moving water between two reservoirs.

Curriculum & Kits

The Nature of Water Power
Grades 4-8

This curriculum has multiple units and lessons to choose from to explore how the force of falling water is used to produce mechanical energy and hydropower.

Make Your Own Hydropower
Grades 7-12

A kit that includes everything needed to complete a functioning hydropower model to light an LED.

How Energy Moves from Nature to Your Home
Grades 4-8

This video with discussion prompts follows the journey of hydropower from a water drop falling as snow to an energy watt traveling on an electricity superhighway to homes and schools. A corresponding poster is also available.

matty

Matty the Water Molecule

This online game for grades 3 – 5 is a narrated story that supports learning about the water cycle and extreme weather while also supporting development of literacy skills.

Teacher & Student Opportunities
